Water rates are rising in Ukraine; the changes have affected water utilities
Starting in June 2026, water utilities in various regions of Ukraine began revising their rates for water supply and wastewater services.
"In June, new rates were introduced in Chernivtsi, Zaporizhzhia, Kryvyi Rih, and Drohobych. For example, in Chernivtsi, the price per cubic meter of water rose from 27.9 hryvnias to 63.2 hryvnias—more than double, or a 126% increase. At the same time, public discussions on the new rates are ongoing in many cities, and July, it seems, will be the month when a wave of widespread rate revisions takes place. Over the course of the year, most municipalities will be forced to bring the cost of water supply to an economically justified level,” Kalinin noted.
According to him, new rates have already been approved or are in the process of being agreed upon with local authorities in the following cities.
“Kyivvodokanal” has also submitted a proposal to city authorities to raise service rates. The proposal states that the cost of supplying one cubic meter of water to residents will rise from the current 16.16 UAH to 50.69 UAH, and the cost of wastewater disposal will rise from 14.22 UAH to 38.21 UAH. This means that the total cost per cubic meter of water for Kyiv residents could rise from 30.38 UAH to 88.9 UAH.
Kyivvodokanal noted that the proposal still needs to be approved by the Kyiv City State Administration within the week. City officials were quick to announce that “the city has not approved such a rate.”
“For Kyiv residents, the cost of centralized water supply and wastewater services will be 63.79 UAH per cubic meter. This rate was approved by the National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Public Utilities (NKREKP) back in 2024,” the statement reads.
