Rescue workers have been fighting a fire at a landfill in Uzhhorod for over a day
Firefighters are still working to extinguish a fire at a landfill in the village of Barvinok, Uzhhorod District. They have been unable to fully extinguish the blaze for over a day, and due to heavy smoke, residents of nearby communities are advised not to open their windows.
This was reported by the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service in Zakarpattia Oblast.
The fire was reported on the evening of April 27. Units from Uzhhorod, Chop, and the village of Serednie were deployed to fight the fire.
“After midnight, rescuers contained the fire to an area of 0.1 hectares. Specialists are using drones to monitor the situation,” the State Emergency Service noted.
As of this morning, 35 rescue workers and 13 pieces of equipment, including heavy machinery from public utilities, are working at the site. Work to fully extinguish the fire is ongoing.
Local residents are urged to follow safety precautions and keep their windows closed until the smoke has completely cleared.
As a reminder, on April 14 in Chernihiv, Russian shelling struck one of the industrial facilities, causing a fire and damage. Rescuers quickly extinguished the blaze; according to preliminary data, there were no fatalities or injuries.
