The Verkhovna Rada appointed Serhiy Koretsky as Prime Minister of Ukraine

On July 16, the Verkhovna Rada appointed Serhiy Koretsky as Prime Minister of Ukraine. His nomination was supported by 289 members of parliament.

The appointment of the new head of government took place as part of a reshuffle of the Cabinet of Ministers. The day before, parliament had approved the resignation of Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, after which the entire government resigned.

Serhiy Koretskyi had headed NAK “Naftogaz of Ukraine” since 2025. Prior to that, he managed the state-owned companies “Ukrnafta” and “UkrTatNafta,” and had worked in the business sector for over 20 years, notably serving as CEO of the WOG gas station chain.

Koretsky holds three higher education degrees in “Automobiles and the Automotive Industry,” “Business Economics,” and “Oil and Gas Production.” In 2019, he completed the Executive MBA program at the Kyiv-Mohyla Business School.

As chairman of the board of “Naftogaz,” Koretskyi served amid a full-scale war, when Russian attacks were targeting Ukraine’s gas infrastructure.
