The Supreme Court handed down a verdict against the murderers of a farmer in the Dnipropetrovsk region in front of the victim's family

The Supreme Court of Ukraine has upheld the convictions of three men who brutally murdered a farmer in the Dnipropetrovsk region in 2018 during a robbery at his home. The defendants have been definitively sentenced to life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.

Prosecutors from the Office of the Prosecutor General and the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office proved in courts of all instances that the crime was premeditated, motivated by greed, and particularly brutal.

The tragedy occurred in December 2018. Three attackers, including a former prison inmate, broke into the home of the 58-year-old director of an agricultural enterprise.

At the time of the attack, his wife, daughter, granddaughter, niece, her husband, and two young children were in the house. One child was about a year old at the time, and the other was only a few months old.

The attackers tied up the adults with duct tape, threatened them with weapons, and demanded money. To force the homeowner to hand over his valuables, they shot him.

After that, the attackers stole cash, jewelry, and other valuables worth over half a million hryvnias. They then brutally beat the man and inflicted a fatal stab wound on him.

The criminals attempted to flee in the victim’s car but were unable to take control of the vehicle because the steering wheel was locked.

The court found all three guilty of:

  • intentional murder for financial gain, committed by a group of individuals acting in concert;
  • robbery;
  • unlawful seizure of a vehicle.

The Court of Appeals upheld the verdict, after which the defense filed a cassation appeal with the Supreme Court.

Prosecutors insisted that the evidence gathered was proper and sufficient, and that the sentence imposed was commensurate with the severity of the crime. The Supreme Court agreed with the prosecution’s arguments and dismissed the appeal.

During the trial, the defendants did not admit their guilt.

The verdict has become final—all three will spend the rest of their lives behind bars.

As a reminder, the Uzhhorod District Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a Ukrainian serviceman who was killed in Uzhhorod. A 26-year-old resident of Zaporizhzhia has been detained in connection with the case and is suspected of treason.

Earlier, the Rivne District Court partially granted the claim of soldier Dmytro Panchuk, who demanded the return of funds accumulated during his three-year captivity.

In the Cherkasy region, a former bank employee was caught embezzling over 1 million hryvnias from the account of the grandmother of a deceased soldier.
