Video: Sale of Counterfeit Polish Butter and Cheese Uncovered in Kyiv
Four out of five samples of butter and cheese sold as Polish products at one of Kyiv’s markets do not meet the requirements for dairy products and contain a significant proportion of milk fat substitutes. This was reported by Maksym Nesmiyanov, director of the Ukrainian Consumers’ Union, based on the results of a laboratory study.
According to him, five samples of dairy products were purchased for testing at a market near the “Lisova” metro station in Kyiv. The analysis was intended to determine whether the products contained non-dairy fats, which should not be present in genuine butter and cheese.
According to the analysis results, Mlekovita Maslo Polskie 82% butter contained nearly 90% milk fat substitutes, Mleczna Dolina 82% contained nearly 95%, Polmlek Perla Warmii cheese contained over 95%, and Mlekovita Brie Classic cheese—about 35%. Only Laciate Maslo Oselkowe Extra butter contained no milk fat substitutes and met the declared specifications.
Nesmianov suggested that some of the products might be counterfeit, since the packaging lacked Ukrainian labeling and information about the official importer. He also warned that consuming such products could pose a health risk.
Based on the results of the inspection, the expert noted that four out of five dairy products examined, labeled as Polish, turned out to be counterfeit or fake.
