Vygivsky explained what percentage of the Defense Forces is made up of units from the Ministry of Internal Affairs
Units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine make up about a quarter of the country’s total security and defense forces. This was stated by Interior Minister Ivan Vygivsky, who emphasized the ministry’s role in defending the country.
According to him, the combat units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs fulfill two important tasks simultaneously—they participate in repelling Russian aggression on the front lines and are also responsible for maintaining Ukraine’s internal security.
He emphasized that the combat units of the National Guard, the National Police, and the State Border Guard Service account for about 25% of the total number of security and defense forces.
“Our fighters stand shoulder to shoulder with the Armed Forces on the most challenging fronts, conducting assault and defensive operations, and inflicting losses on the enemy,” Vygivsky noted.
According to the Minister of Internal Affairs, the ministry’s troops, together with the Armed Forces of Ukraine, are carrying out combat missions in the most challenging sectors of the front, conducting assault and defensive operations, and inflicting casualties on Russian troops.
At the same time, units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs continue to maintain law and order, respond to the consequences of Russian attacks, evacuate the population, and ensure security within the country.
Vygivsky emphasized that it is precisely this combination of combat functions and the maintenance of internal security that defines the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ unique role in Ukraine’s security and defense sector.

According to Vygivsky, the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ Expert Service plays a crucial role in documenting war crimes, as its specialists examine weapons, missile debris, and drone fragments.
The identification of the deceased—particularly bodies returned as part of repatriation efforts—remains a particularly challenging task.
The minister noted that Ukrainian experts have already gained unique experience in this field, which has attracted significant interest from international partners, and the development of specialized laboratories and identification centers remains one of the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ priorities.

Earlier, a fatal traffic accident occurred in the Obukhiv district. A 70-year-old driver of a passenger car was killed in the accident, and two female passengers were injured.
Since the beginning of this year, 390 people, including 168 children, have been injured in traffic accidents involving light electric vehicles in Ukraine.
