An official from a municipal utility company was arrested in Lviv on bribery charges
In Lviv, law enforcement officers detained the head of the technical department of a local utility company while he was receiving an illegal benefit. The 35-year-old official is suspected of extorting money in exchange for approving project documentation.
According to preliminary information, the official demanded money in exchange for making the necessary decision. Law enforcement is currently investigating all the circumstances of the case and assessing the legality of the detainee’s actions.
The LKP official demanded and received a bribe of 20,000 UAH for approving a working design for electrical installation work involving a non-standard connection to the power grid for a non-residential premises located on Pasichna Street. Law enforcement officers detained the employee on Tuesday, August 4, after he received the bribe from a representative of the premises’ owner.
Specifically, the case involves the head of the technical department of LKP “Hospodar,” which is located on Pasichna Street in Lviv and serves, among others, the Lychakiv district.
The 35-year-old official was notified of his status as a suspect in a crime under Part 3 of Article 368 (Acceptance of an Offer, Promise, or Receipt of an Unlawful Benefit by a Public Official) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The maximum penalty provided for by this article is imprisonment for up to 10 years, along with disqualification from holding certain positions or engaging in certain activities for up to three years, and confiscation of property.
The pretrial investigation is ongoing, and the suspect has been placed in pretrial detention with the right to post bail.
