A soldier was sentenced to 9 years for a drug-related crime following the Special Military Operation
A court sentenced a soldier from the Dnipropetrovsk region, who was detained in Zakarpattia with two kilograms of drugs, to nine years in prison. According to the investigation, after deserting his unit, he began working as a drug courier.
The Rakhiv District Court found Konstantin S., a native of Dnipro, guilty of deserting his military unit and drug trafficking and sentenced him to 9 years in prison with the confiscation of all his property.
As reported by the Transcarpathian Regional Police on Tuesday, July 21, the case involves a drug courier who was detained in March while attempting to smuggle a shipment of the psychotropic substance Alpha-PVP into the region.
According to the case file, in December 2024, the defendant deserted his military unit and began delivering drugs to various cities in Ukraine. On March 12, 2026, while en route to Transcarpathia, he left a portion of the drugs (over 800 g) under a bridge in the village of Ostrytsia, Chernivtsi Oblast. The drug courier’s Honda was stopped at a checkpoint in Lazeshchyna, where over 2.2 kg of Alpha-PVP was found under the hood.
Simultaneously, searches were conducted in the Donetsk, Odesa, Mykolaiv, Vinnytsia, and Chernivtsi regions, which the defendant had passed through and where he had left packages of drugs.
During the court hearing, Konstantin S. pleaded guilty and asked not to be punished too severely. The court also took into account the negative character reference for the Dnipro native from his military unit, where he had performed his duties irresponsibly and failed to observe the chain of command.
After reviewing all the case materials, Judge Maria Marusiak found Konstantin S. guilty of deserting his military unit and drug trafficking and sentenced him to 9 years in prison with the confiscation of all his property. The verdict may be appealed.
