The Lviv Regional Administration and the Sokilnytsia community have resolved the conflict over the airport

The Lviv Regional State Administration, the Sokilnytsia Territorial Community, and the State Enterprise “Danylo Halytskyi Lviv International Airport” have signed a memorandum of cooperation, putting an end to the prolonged public debate surrounding the airport. The document outlines a roadmap for infrastructure development, taking into account flight safety, environmental restrictions, and the use of adjacent lands.

This was announced during a briefing at the Lviv Regional Military Administration.

LOVA Deputy Head Yuriy Buchko emphasized that the development of the state-owned enterprise is the prerogative of the central government, and the signed memorandum will help avoid legal disputes regarding the Sokilnyky master plan. At the same time, Regional Governor Maksym Kozytskyi expressed surprise at the criticism from the Lviv City Council, noting that all of the city administration’s public concerns had been taken into account during the preparation of the document. Airport Director Tetiana Romanovska added that intensive practical work is already underway to resume the airport’s operations amid the challenges posed by Russia’s aggression.

Implementation of the memorandum’s provisions is intended to ease tensions regarding land development and ensure a balance of interests between the state and the local community. Taras Sulymko, head of the Sokilnytsia Territorial Community, confirmed his readiness for dialogue, calling the document the result of lengthy negotiations. Coordinating development plans for this strategic infrastructure facility will allow for the attraction of necessary investments and prepare the airport for the full resumption of passenger services. The Lviv Regional State Administration continues to serve as a moderator to ensure the stable operation of the region’s transportation network.

We have also previously reported that Lviv International Airport is exploring the possibility of launching civilian flights during martial law, provided that safety is ensured.

As a reminder, Wizz Air is ready to launch about 100 routes in Ukraine within the first six months after air service resumes. It is already close to reaching an agreement on resuming commercial operations with several Ukrainian airports.
