Customs officials in Volyn seized undeclared fitness equipment worth over one million hryvnias

At the “Ustyluh” customs post, Volyn customs officers thwarted an attempt to illegally import into Ukraine a commercial shipment of fitness trackers, smart scales, and portable antennas with an estimated value of 1.03 million hryvnias.

The citizen chose the “green corridor” lane upon entry, thereby legally declaring that he had no goods subject to written declaration; however, the undeclared cargo was discovered during an inspection of the vehicle’s trunk.

A report was drawn up regarding this incident for a violation of customs regulations under Part 2 of Article 471 of the Customs Code of Ukraine, which provides for a fine of 30 percent of the value of the goods. While the administrative report was being drawn up, the offender expressed a desire to utilize the legal mechanism of compromise and enter into a settlement agreement with customs under Article 521 of the Customs Code of Ukraine, which provides for the voluntary payment of the fine to the state budget within one month to terminate the proceedings and allow for the subsequent customs clearance of the goods.
