Volodymyr Zelenskyy awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine to a soldier from the Lviv region
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy awarded Vasyl Kuts, a serviceman from the Lviv region, the highest state honor. The soldier was conferred the title of Hero of Ukraine and presented with the Order of the Golden Star.
Vasyl Kuts serves in the Airborne Assault Troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Since the start of the full-scale war, Vasyl Kuts, a native of the Radekhiv region, has served in the Airborne Assault Troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He has endured fierce battles, carried out complex combat missions, and shouldered responsibility for the lives of his comrades.
In 2025, an assault group under Vasyl Kuts’s command eliminated more than 40 Russian soldiers and captured one occupier. Subsequently, Vasyl Kuts led his group out of enemy encirclement, which had lasted more than two weeks. He also participated in the evacuation of fallen Ukrainian soldiers.
According to a presidential decree, Vasyl Kuts holds the rank of junior sergeant.
“We are proud of you, Vasyl! Thank you for your courage and resilience, for your comrades, for your service, and for Ukraine. May this award serve not only as recognition of your heroic deed but also as a reminder to all of us of the price at which our freedom and independence are won,” wrote the head of the Sheptytskyi District State Administration.

Zelenskyy conferred the title of Hero of Ukraine on seven servicemembers, three of them posthumously.
Prior to this, Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed decrees No. 317/2026 and No. 318/2026 awarding state honors to more than 1,000 Ukrainian servicemembers, some of whom received the awards posthumously.
In addition, Zelenskyy awarded scholarships to the children of journalists who were killed in the line of duty.
Zelenskyy honored 34 Ukrainians on Volunteer Day.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy honored 362 military personnel with state awards, 176 of them posthumously. The awards were granted for courage, dedication, and the defense of the country’s sovereignty. Among the honors are orders, medals, and the “Cross of Combat Merit.”
