Zaluzhny arrived in Kyiv and outlined the main priorities for Ukraine's diplomats
Valeriy Zaluzhny, Ukraine’s ambassador to the United Kingdom, arrived in Kyiv to attend a meeting of Ukrainian diplomats. On August 3, he stated that key priorities include working to establish peace, strengthening Ukraine’s international leadership, and securing reliable security guarantees.
According to Zaluzhny, this year’s meeting of Ukrainian ambassadors began with a visit to the frontline Chernihiv region. He noted that this region has been defending itself against Russian troops since the very first hours of the full-scale invasion, has endured occupation, and currently remains a Ukrainian outpost on the border with Russia and Belarus.
“This region, which we have defended since the very first hours of the full-scale invasion and which has endured a harsh occupation, remains Ukraine’s northern outpost on the border with Russia and Belarus. I am grateful for the opportunity to meet with those who are protecting and rebuilding life here during these difficult times,” he noted.
After the trip, the meeting participants continued their work in Kyiv. Zaluzhny emphasized that establishing a just peace and strengthening Ukraine’s role on the international stage remain among the main tasks of Ukrainian diplomacy today.
At the same time, he stressed that the key guarantees of security for Ukraine are not only international support but also the development of its own defense capabilities.
“I will say it again—the true guarantees of security for our country are the development of our defense capabilities in the context of high-tech warfare and the new world order. And also—effective security alliances,” Zaluzhny stated.
As a reminder, on July 22, Oleksandr Syrskyi announced that he was stepping down as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In his farewell address, he summarized his work, outlined the key achievements of his command, and thanked Ukrainian servicemen for their service.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appointed Major General Mykhailo Drapatyi, commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, replacing Oleksandr Syrskyi.
The new Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Mykola Drapaty, addressed the Ukrainian people.
Later, Zaluzhny reacted to Drapaty’s appointment as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
