The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant lost its external power supply for the second time this week

On the evening of April 16, the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant temporarily lost its external power supply. This is the second such incident in recent days and the 14th since the start of the full-scale war.

This was reported by the IAEA.

According to the IAEA, the causes of the outage are currently unknown. Agency experts at the plant are conducting an investigation and continue to monitor the situation.

External power was restored after approximately 40 minutes. The IAEA emphasized that such incidents once again highlight the vulnerability of the nuclear safety situation at the facility.

This is not the first such incident in recent times: the previous outage occurred on April 14, when power was restored after about an hour and a half.

The day before, the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant resumed operations on Ukraine’s power grid after a one-and-a-half-hour interruption in external power supply.
