The deputy mayor of Bucha has been notified that he is suspected of inflating estimates for housing reconstruction

On June 25, law enforcement officials announced that they had charged one of the deputy mayors of Bucha with embezzlement of public funds during the reconstruction of residential buildings damaged as a result of Russian aggression and occupation. According to the investigation, the official may have inflated the cost of labor and materials, which could have resulted in losses to the local budget during the city’s reconstruction.

According to the investigation, after the de-occupation of Bucha, the official signed a series of contracts for major repairs to the roofs of apartment buildings that had been damaged during the hostilities.

This involves five residential buildings in Bucha.

Investigators determined that during the work, inflated prices for construction materials were included in the cost estimates. Despite this, the official signed certificates of completion, which served as the basis for transferring budget funds to the contractor.

Based on the results of expert examinations and audits, the losses were estimated at over 3 million 164 thousand hryvnias.

The official is charged with embezzlement through abuse of office under martial law. The pretrial investigation is ongoing, according to the press service of the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

As a reminder, the SBU detained a woman suspected of working for Russian intelligence services.

The SBU has also uncovered new schemes to evade mobilization throughout Ukraine.
