A judge from Zakarpattia who was convicted of bribery was released from prison early
Anton Haidur, a former judge of the Mizhhiria District Court who was sentenced to five years in prison for bribery, was released on parole from the Menska Correctional Colony. He had served nearly five years of his sentence.
In February 2020, the judge was arrested after accepting a 15,000-hryvnia bribe in exchange for a ruling in favor of a party in a civil case. The court sentenced him to five years in prison, barred him from holding certain positions for three years, and ordered the confiscation of his property.
Since May 2022, Haidur has been serving his sentence at Mena Correctional Colony No. 91 in Chernihiv Oblast. There, he made friends and worked in the sewing shop. According to the convict’s character reference, he has never been subject to disciplinary action, has a negative attitude toward alcohol consumption, has positive plans for the future, and is working to achieve them.
On June 15, 2026, the Mensky District Court granted the colony warden’s request for Anton Haidur’s conditional early release; on August 3, the Chernihiv Court of Appeals upheld this decision, and on August 25, the Supreme Court denied the prosecutor’s request to open cassation proceedings.
