Zelenskyy and Wadeful discussed support for Ukraine
On August 22, Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadeful in Kyiv to discuss continued support for Ukraine. The parties focused on strengthening defense, preparing for winter, and countering Russian attacks on civilian and critical infrastructure.
The President thanked the German Foreign Minister for visiting Ukraine during these important and historic days for the country—in particular, to participate in the 9th International Veterans Forum—and for all the support provided by Germany.
It is important to note that the German Foreign Minister plans to visit several regions of Ukraine where the situation is difficult due to Russian shelling.
“We thank Germany and all of your people for such tremendous support. You are our greatest supporters in Europe. We are glad to have such friends,” Zelenskyy noted.
The President briefed the German Foreign Minister on the consequences of the cynical Russian attacks targeting civilian infrastructure and our people.
For his part, Wadeful expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and to all those affected.
During the meeting, the two leaders discussed support for Ukrainians ahead of winter, as Russia seeks to use this difficult time to inflict as much suffering as possible on Ukrainians. Strengthening Ukraine’s air defense is a priority.
The Head of State noted Germany’s leadership on this issue and its efforts to provide as much assistance as possible despite all the existing challenges.
Separately, Zelenskyy and Wadeful focused on ways to protect the transportation routes for Ukrainian agricultural products, which are facing significant difficulties due to attacks by Russia.
In addition, the meeting addressed the work of the teams on the “Drone Deal” agreement, with the aim of signing the document in the near future.
The interlocutors also discussed in detail support for Ukraine’s European integration. In particular, Zelenskyy thanked Germany for all the important steps taken in this direction.
The President of Ukraine and the German Foreign Minister also discussed preparations for the Coalition of the Willing meeting in Kyiv and diplomatic efforts. In particular, the head of state provided an update on his contacts with representatives of U.S. President Donald Trump.

As a reminder, Russia struck the port of Odesa again, resulting in casualties.
In Izyum, Kharkiv Oblast, five people were injured as a result of a Russian airstrike. The enemy also damaged at least 15 residential buildings.
Since the evening of August 16, the Russian army has attacked four districts of the Dnipropetrovsk region nearly 20 times. Five people were wounded as a result of the enemy strikes.
In Kherson, power outages occurred as a result of yet another round of Russian shelling.
