Zelenskyy ordered security forces to explain the shooting in Kyiv

Following the special operation and shooting in Kyiv, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy demanded that law enforcement officials provide the public with an explanation of the events in the capital.

During a conversation with journalists, Lytvyn was asked how Volodymyr Zelenskyy had reacted to the situation surrounding the special operation in Kyiv.

He took the relevant agency heads to task,” replied the presidential adviser.

When asked to clarify exactly what demands the head of state had made of the heads of law enforcement agencies, Lytvyn noted:

“Specifically, to provide information to the public, because the agencies had remained silent.”

At the same time, the presidential adviser emphasized that the special operation in Kyiv is not connected to the shooting in Odesa.

The head of the Office of the President, Kirill Budanov, stated that the events in Kyiv are already being investigated by the State Bureau of Investigations and the Office of the Prosecutor General.

He stressed the need for a thorough and impartial investigation.

“The State Bureau of Investigations and the Office of the Prosecutor General are already handling the situation; it is important to ensure a thorough and impartial investigation, but no one has the right to kidnap military personnel with impunity, open fire on the streets of our cities, or issue and carry out criminal orders,” Budanov said.

Thus, the head of the Presidential Office stressed that any actions by representatives of law enforcement agencies must be subject to proper legal assessment.

According to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), the SBU, in cooperation with the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, thwarted a terrorist attack that the Russian FSB was planning against one of the leaders of the Russian opposition movement.

It is noted that the opposition figure arrived in Kyiv to mark Ukraine’s Independence Day.

During investigative operations related to this case, an armed clash involving law enforcement officials occurred in Kyiv.

The SBU and the Office of the Prosecutor General reported the detention of military personnel from one of the units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. Several people were also injured as a result of the incident.

The SBU explained that its officers were conducting urgent investigative actions to collect and secure evidence.

“SBU officers were conducting urgent investigative actions to collect and secure evidence. During a search at one of the addresses, a group of individuals carried out an armed attack on the SBU’s operational-investigative team. They attempted to obstruct the investigative operations… As a result of the incident, some of those who resisted were injured. The attackers were detained. Initial investigative actions established that the detainees belong to one of the units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces,” the statement reads.

According to law enforcement officials, weapons and documents were seized from the detainees.

A pre-trial investigation has been launched into the incident on grounds of threats and attempted murder of law enforcement officers.

Dmytro Lytvyn, the president’s communications adviser, reported on the head of state’s reaction.

Information about a possible shooting in Kyiv is circulating on social media. According to eyewitness reports, law enforcement officers were seen at the scene.

On September 2, Kyrylo Budanov, head of the Office of the President, stated that law enforcement agencies are already handling the shooting incident in Kyiv. According to him, the State Bureau of Investigations and the Office of the Prosecutor General are leading the investigation into the incident.
