Zelenskyy identified a timeframe for active peace talks
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes that the most active period for diplomatic efforts to end the war will last from the G20 summit in the United States until the end of summer 2027. According to him, this is precisely when there will be the greatest opportunities for negotiations that could lead to an end to the war.
Zelenskyy explained that Ukraine sees a certain “window of opportunity” for active diplomacy. In his view, it will begin with the G20 summit in the United States and last until the end of summer 2027. “The window of opportunity for ending the war extends from the G20 summit in the United States to the end of summer 2027, because that is when the U.S. presidential election begins,” said the head of state.
According to him, the end of 2026 and the first half of 2027 could be the most active period for diplomacy. “We believe that, as of today, this is the most active phase during which diplomacy can lead to an end to the war. This is the end of this year and through the end of summer 2027,” Zelenskyy noted.
Russia has not yet shown a willingness to engage in dialogue
At the same time, the president acknowledged that Russia’s position remains the main problem. According to Zelenskyy, Vladimir Putin continues to rely on force and shows no willingness to engage in meaningful dialogue.
The president stated that the Russian leader wants to maintain maximum pressure and pursue a path of escalation. “Putin wants to constantly demonstrate strength; he does not want to engage in any dialogue whatsoever; he wants maximum escalation,” Zelenskyy said.
Therefore, he said, diplomatic pressure and negotiations with partners should be used during this period, which Ukraine considers the most favorable for a possible end to the war.
When the latest talks took place
The latest round of trilateral talks between Ukraine, the U.S., and Russia took place in Geneva on February 17–18. Kyiv is also expecting further contacts with representatives of U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration. In particular, Ukraine is counting on a visit to Kyiv by Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner following their trips to Russia.
Zelenskyy believes that the coming period could be crucial for diplomatic efforts. At the same time, specific agreements depend not only on Ukraine and the U.S. but also on Russia’s willingness to take concrete steps toward ending the war. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated this during a conversation with journalists.
Russia has not ruled out the theoretical possibility of an offensive from the Bryansk region toward the Chernihiv and Kyiv regions. At the same time, no Russian troops have been detected in the Bryansk region along this route at present, although the Ukrainian military has spotted Russian military equipment along the border.
Ukrainian defense forces have almost completely liberated the Dnipropetrovsk region from Russian troops. According to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, approximately 10 square kilometers remain under Russian control—three small villages where, as the president asserts, there are virtually no Russian troops left.
