Zelenskyy Discussed Support for Ukraine with the Speaker of the Japanese Parliament
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Eisuke Mori, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Japanese Diet. The two sides discussed energy assistance for Ukraine ahead of winter, defense cooperation, and support for the sovereignty of both countries.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with Eisuke Mori, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Japanese Diet. During the conversation, they discussed support for Ukraine, particularly assistance in the energy and defense sectors.

Zelenskyy thanked Japan for its support of Ukraine since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion. According to him, Tokyo has consistently assisted Ukraine in the humanitarian, energy, and political spheres. “We highly value your humanitarian, energy, and political support. Since assuming the G7 presidency, Japan has consistently supported Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, has always spoken out in support, and I want to thank you and your people for that,” the president said.
Zelenskyy also specifically mentioned Japan’s stance on Russia’s actions. He emphasized that the Japanese government has strongly condemned Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. The President also stated that Ukraine supports Japan on issues of its sovereignty and territorial integrity. “In this regard, we certainly support Japan; we support your sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Zelenskyy noted.
Japan Reaffirmed Its Support for Ukraine
Eisuke Mori, for his part, thanked Ukraine for supporting Japan’s territorial integrity. He assured Zelenskyy that Japan would continue to support Ukraine and its right to independence and sovereignty. “For my part, I would like to reassure you once again that Japan always supports Ukraine’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence,” emphasized the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Japanese Diet.

Mori recalled that back in 2022, the Japanese parliament adopted a resolution condemning Russia’s attempts to violate Ukraine’s territorial integrity. According to him, this is precisely why representatives of the Japanese parliament came to Ukraine. Mori emphasized that all political forces in Japan are expressing their support for Kyiv. “That is precisely why we came here, to Ukraine—to once again demonstrate our position as the Japanese Parliament: that all parties, regardless of their political stance, support Ukraine and will continue to support Ukraine,” he said.
They Discussed Energy and Defense
Special attention was paid during the meeting to Ukraine’s preparations for the winter. Zelenskyy and Mori discussed what kind of support Japan could provide to Ukraine in the energy sector. They also discussed further defense cooperation between the two countries. Zelenskyy specifically noted Japan’s decision to provide non-lethal defense aid to Ukraine. Among other things, this includes the country’s participation in the PURL program.
The president also invited Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to visit Ukraine. During the meeting, Zelenskyy awarded Eisuke Mori the Order of Merit, First Class. The Japanese Speaker’s visit to Kyiv was yet another sign of Tokyo’s support for Ukraine. The parties agreed to continue cooperation, particularly in the fields of energy and defense, as Ukraine prepares for the upcoming winter season. The Office of the President announced the meeting.
Representatives of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) attended a meeting with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga wearing traditional Ukrainian embroidered shirts.
