In Lviv, a man is suspected of murdering his wife and 25-year-old son
In Lviv, a 56-year-old man was taken into custody without the possibility of bail. He is suspected of murdering his ex-wife and 25-year-old son, whom, according to the investigation, he stabbed more than 120 times in total. The man had previously been charged with domestic violence.
A double homicide occurred in Lviv. According to investigators, the 56-year-old man went to the apartment of his ex-wife and 25-year-old son, after which an argument broke out between them. The tragedy occurred on the evening of September 12 near the Pidzamche station. During the altercation, the man, according to investigators, grabbed a knife and began attacking his son. His ex-wife came out of the room upon hearing the commotion. The attacker then, as law enforcement officials note, began stabbing her as well.
“During the conflict, the father began stabbing his son. Hearing the sounds of the struggle, the woman came out of the room, and the assailant lunged at her with the knife as well,” the prosecutor’s office stated in a release. Before she died, the woman managed to call a close acquaintance and ask him for help. It was this call that later helped law enforcement officials learn about the tragedy.
According to the prosecutor’s office, the man stabbed his son more than 20 times in the chest and torso. He stabbed his ex-wife more than 100 times. “In total, the man stabbed his son more than 20 times in the chest and torso, and his ex-wife more than 100 times. The 42-year-old woman and her 25-year-old son died at the scene from their injuries,” law enforcement officials reported. After the attack, according to investigators, the suspect left the apartment. Shortly thereafter, the bodies of the victims were found by an acquaintance of the woman, whom she had called earlier. He called the police.
Law enforcement officers began searching for the man and subsequently detained him. The detention was carried out in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. The prosecutor’s office also reported previous incidents of domestic violence. According to the office, the man had already been held administratively liable on multiple occasions for domestic violence. “The detainee had previously been held administratively liable on multiple occasions for committing domestic violence,” the prosecutor’s office noted.
The man has been charged with the intentional murder of two people—under paragraph 1 of part 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The court ordered him to be held in custody without the right to bail. A pretrial investigation is currently underway. Law enforcement officials are establishing all the circumstances of the tragedy. At the same time, the suspect’s final guilt and punishment must be determined by the court. This was reported by the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
