Zelensky announces conditions under which elections will be held in Ukraine

At an urgent online press conference with journalists, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky responded to a question that had been raised a few hours earlier by U.S. President Donald Trump. In particular, he announced when elections in Ukraine could take place.

According to Zelensky, claims that the government is clinging to power and that this is supposedly why the war does not end are completely inadequate. He emphasized that elections can only take place under conditions that guarantee the safety of citizens.
“To hold elections, there are two issues — security, how to do it under missile strikes, and secondly, the legislative basis for the legitimacy of holding elections,” the president said.

Zelensky also stated that he is asking the U.S. and European partners to ensure security for the elections. If this is provided, Ukraine would be ready to hold voting within 60–90 days. In addition, he requested that Ukrainian lawmakers prepare legislative proposals regarding the possibility of changing the election law during martial law.
“I will be in Ukraine tomorrow. I am expecting proposals from our partners, I am expecting proposals from our deputies, and I am ready to go to elections,” the president said.
