Zelenskyy thanked Magyar for condemning Russia's attack on Zakarpattia

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the statement by Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar, who condemned Russia’s massive airstrike, as an important message. The head of state thanked his Hungarian counterpart for his concern and emphasized that Moscow’s actions pose a threat not only to Ukraine but to all of Europe.

Zelenskyy wrote about this in a Telegram post.

Budapest’s reaction followed Russia’s strikes on the Zakarpattia region on May 13, which prompted the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to summon the Russian ambassador. This move signaled a radical shift in the Hungarian government’s policy toward Russia following personnel changes in the country’s leadership. Previously, the former leadership of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry had avoided such diplomatic measures following shelling of border areas.
