Ukraine will send air defense experts to Latvia — Zelenskyy
Ukraine will send a group of experts to Latvia to share expertise and provide practical assistance in strengthening the air defense system.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this on Facebook following a meeting with his Latvian counterpart, Edgars Rinkēvičs.
Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine expects to sign an agreement with Latvia under the Drone Deal framework to build a multi-layered system to protect the airspace from various types of threats. He proposed such cooperation to Rinkēvičs.
“We will send our experts to Latvia to share expertise and provide direct assistance in protecting airspace. It is important to work together to strengthen Europe’s defense,” Zelenskyy stated.
During the meeting, the presidents also discussed the security situation in the region as a whole. Zelenskyy reiterated that the root cause of all challenges and threats is Russia and its aggression.
“And I am grateful that we share a common position on this,” he noted.
The heads of state also focused, among other things, on diplomatic efforts and Ukraine’s European integration.
Zelensky emphasized that it is important to open all negotiation clusters as soon as possible. According to him, there are “good opportunities” for this right now.
“Latvia has consistently supported us on this issue, and I am grateful for that,” the President noted.
Zelenskyyoutlined the main objective of the NATO summit in Turkey.
A NATO summit was held in The Hague, following which partners recognized Russia as a “long-term threat” to the entire Alliance.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is convinced of a consensus among NATO members regarding the need to increase defense spending. This is necessary due to the threat posed by Russia.
