Zelenskyy thanked Starmer for his support of Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded to the announcement of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s resignation, expressing his gratitude to Starmer for his cooperation and support for Ukraine.

The head of state emphasized the importance of joint decisions, which, he said, have strengthened Ukraine and European security.

“Keir, thank you for all your cooperation, support, and joint decisions, which have made our Europe and our defense of life stronger. Britain has been, is, and will remain among the global leaders. We in Ukraine value Britain—and every meeting we’ve had, every conversation, has always been filled with real substance,” Zelenskyy wrote.

The president also noted Starmer’s proactive stance, his commitment to maintaining constant contact, and his efforts in making decisions that were important for Ukraine.

“I wish the United Kingdom and all Britons nothing but success and the fulfillment of your national goals. We have confidence in Britain. Keir, you are always a welcome guest in Ukraine,” he added.

According to reports, Keir Starmer announced his resignation on June 22. The decision came amid a political crisis in the United Kingdom, which intensified following local elections in which the Labour Party lost a significant number of seats and control of the Welsh Assembly.

After the elections, some MPs and members of the government publicly called for Starmer’s resignation, which heightened domestic political tensions in the country.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer informed staff at his office of his final decision to resign.

Within the UK Labour Party, talk has intensified about a possible leadership change and the potential resignation of Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham is cited as the leading contender to replace him.

The British Foreign Secretary has called on Starmer to resign.
