Zelenskyy Explained the Appointment of Igor Klymenko as Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the main reason for appointing former Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko as Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council is the need to systematically prepare the country for the winter season.

According to the Head of State, getting through the winter is currently the number one challenge. Zelenskyy noted the high level of performance by the State Emergency Service (SES), which Klymenko previously oversaw as head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and emphasized that he expects the revamped NSDC, under Klymenko’s leadership, to take a systematic approach to resolving all pressing security issues.

Zelenskyy announced a restructuring of Ukrainian embassies.

Ivan Vyhivsky was dismissed from his post as head of the National Police of Ukraine on July 16. Until a new head is appointed, First Deputy Maksym Tsutsikiridze will serve as acting head.
