Zelenskyy Says Ukraine Faces a Critical Shortage of Air Defense Missiles — Sky News
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported a severe shortage of missiles for air defense systems, which are needed to repel massive Russian attacks. According to him, the problem has become particularly acute due to Russia’s ballistic missile strikes, which require significant stockpiles of interceptors.
The president noted that he is focused on negotiations with the United States, President Trump, and other allies to ensure they continue to provide funds and weapons to defend Ukraine and strengthen sanctions against Russia.
He said that air defense remains a priority, as Russia is increasingly using ballistic missiles against major cities—just last week, 40 such missiles were fired at Kyiv in a single hour.
“We don’t have enough missiles for defense; that’s a problem. Sanctions against Russia’s military production aren’t strong enough—they can ramp up production of ballistic missiles, so we need air defense as soon as possible,” Zelenskyy said.
According to the president, due to the conflict in the Middle East, Ukraine now lacks air defense capabilities.
“Now I understand the root of the problem. I understand the relationship between the U.S. and the countries of the Middle East, and I understand that the U.S. is focused on the Middle East, but because of this, we’ve faced this challenge, and for us, it’s a major problem,” he explained.
Zelenskyy added in an interview with Sky News that he is trying to resolve this issue together with European partners, the Americans, and other countries, calling it “a major challenge for Ukraine.”
