Zelenskyy called on the EU to unblock Ukraine's accession talks as early as May

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on European Union leaders to begin unblocking the negotiation clusters regarding Ukraine’s accession to the EU as early as May.

He made this statement during an address to participants at the meeting of EU heads of state and government in Cyprus, according to the Office of the President of Ukraine.

The head of state emphasized that Ukraine is counting on full membership in the European Union thanks to both its defense of Europe and the reforms it has carried out.

“I believe that as a result of both our defense of Europe and our reforms, Ukraine should receive full membership in the European Union,” Zelenskyy noted.

The President underscored the importance of moving as quickly as possible to practical steps in the negotiations.

“We seek the same full membership that every European Union member state has—from Cyprus to Poland. The only thing we ask for is to accelerate the process of full membership with a clear start date,” he stated.

According to Zelenskyy, accelerating Ukraine’s EU accession process will help counter Russia’s attempts to weaken Europe and hinder Ukraine’s European integration.

The President thanked partners for their support and efforts to accelerate Ukraine’s accession process to the European Union.

Ukraine hopes that the European Union will open all six negotiation clusters regarding the country’s accession this year, and also anticipates the possibility of closing at least one of them by the end of the year.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that our country could open and close all six negotiation clusters necessary for accession to the European Union as early as next year.
