Residents of Kolonshchyna in the Kyiv region will vote on whether to join the OCU
On Saturday, May 30, a general meeting of the local religious community will be held in the village of Kolonshchyna in the Kyiv region.
The main item on the agenda will be amending the charter of the St. John the Theologian parish to allow it to leave the Moscow Patriarchate.
It is expected that the religious community will officially adopt a decision to join the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
The organizers have designated the venue for the event as the local House of Culture at 2 Shevchenko Street. The official meeting is intended to legally formalize the villagers’ expression of will regarding the future of their church.
The procedure for changing church jurisdiction requires strict adherence to the rules and the necessary number of votes from participants.
According to current legislation, a decision to transfer a parish to the jurisdiction of another church must be adopted exclusively at a general meeting.
A mandatory condition is the presence of a legitimate quorum, the parameters of which are clearly specified in the charter of each specific community.
“The decision to change affiliation must be signed by all members of the relevant religious community,” the official rules state.
For a successful transition, the support of at least two-thirds of the total number of parishioners present is required.
This process is taking place against the backdrop of a protracted legal battle between religious organizations and state regulatory bodies.
Earlier, the Kyiv Metropolis of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate filed an official lawsuit against the State Service of Ukraine for Ethnic Policy and Freedom of Conscience.
Representatives of the clergy are attempting to have the government’s order to rectify identified violations of religious legislation overturned in court.
