A Dnipro resident has been sentenced to 8 years in prison for fraud involving a deceased woman's apartment

In Dnipro, a court found a local resident guilty of fraud and the use of forged documents and sentenced him to eight years in prison with confiscation of property.

Prosecutors from the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office fully proved the guilt of the perpetrator, who in 2018 found an apartment in the city that had been unattended for a long time following the death of its owner. The court’s verdict was reported on the agency’s official website, according to the press service of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

The man forged a deed of gift in the name of the deceased woman and, based on these forged documents, transferred ownership of the property through a notary. He then changed the locks on the property and contacted a real estate agency to quickly sell the property that did not belong to him. The fraudulent scheme was uncovered thanks to the vigilance of one of the potential buyers, who had paid a deposit but decided to speak with the neighbors. The residents of the building told the man that the previous owner of the apartment had died, and that the legal heir was her son, who was abroad at the time.

The buyer immediately reported the circumstances to law enforcement, who documented the crime and detained the suspect. During the trial, the defendant categorically denied his guilt. Despite this, the prosecution provided the judges with comprehensive and sufficient irrefutable evidence, which allowed the offender to be held accountable under Part 4 of Article 190 and Part 4 of Article 358 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.
