The yellow alert level in schools does not allow classes to continue
When a yellow-level air threat is declared, students and school staff must leave their classrooms and proceed to shelters. Classes cannot continue as usual during this time.
Education Ombudswoman Nadiya Leshchyk explained that, if possible, classes can continue directly in the shelter. If the shelter cannot accommodate all students and staff, the number of people in the school must not exceed its capacity.
In such a situation, the school may switch to a hybrid or staggered schedule. For example, some students attend in person while others learn remotely, and then they switch. In-person instruction may also be organized for only certain classes.
Leshchik also emphasized that teachers should not be forced to go to school during an air raid alert if they are in a safe place.
The commute to school also remains a problem. As one safety option, the ombudswoman suggests mobile shelters at bus stops and other places where people gather. According to her, such structures should be maintained by local communities.
