17 settlements in Zakarpattia may be left without gas due to flooding

In the Berehove district of Zakarpattia region, rapid snowmelt and a rise in the water level of the Tisa River have undermined a gas pipeline support, putting gas supplies at risk for nearly 5,800 customers in 17 settlements.

This was reported by the Zakarpattia Regional State Administration (RSA).

“Due to rapid snowmelt and rising water levels in the Tisa River near the village of Hetynia in the Berehove district, flooding undermined a gas pipeline support. The structure has tilted significantly, threatening stable gas supply for nearly 5,800 customers in 17 settlements: Hetynia, Sasovo, Diakovo, Petrovo, Bobove, Chepa, Chornotysovo, Diula, Kholmivets, Divychne, Zatysivka, Velyka Palad, Zabolottia, Bratovo, Okli, Okli Hed and Klynove,” the statement said.

An operational штаб (emergency coordination centre) is currently working at the site in the Pyiterfolvi community. All necessary forces and resources have been deployed to prevent an emergency situation.

Following an unscheduled meeting of the Regional Commission on Technogenic and Environmental Safety and Emergencies, an emergency response plan has been approved.

“The top priority is to secure the pipeline and buy time for repairs. Specialised services are already constructing an embankment across the Tisa River so that heavy machinery can reach the support. At the same time, specialists are working on several engineering solutions — from creating a temporary bypass to complex drilling of a new line beneath the riverbed. As these options require significant resources and time, they are being developed simultaneously,” the RSA reported.

The affected settlements will have uninterrupted electricity supply: no scheduled power outages will be applied during the repair works. To ensure the grid can withstand peak loads, the regional power company is increasing the number of emergency repair crews. Residents are advised, where possible, to prepare alternative heating options, including solid-fuel stoves and the use of liquefied gas for household needs.

In addition, local authorities and the State Emergency Service are deploying extra resilience and heating centres.

Prepared contingency plans will allow healthcare facilities and schools to continue operating. Medical care and the education process will remain accessible and of high quality under all circumstances.

The RSA emphasised that all responsible services are operating in enhanced mode, with clear coordination and fully synchronised actions. The situation is under the personal supervision of the Head of the Zakarpattia Regional Military Administration.

As previously reported, Russian forces attacked areas of the Dnipropetrovsk region.
