Britain is developing measures to protect its fleet from Russian GPS jamming — The Times

The British military is working on a new navigation system designed to reduce the vulnerability of naval vessels to Russian electronic warfare capabilities. The project aims to ensure more reliable positioning of the fleet in the face of active GPS jamming.

This was reported by The Times.

The British government is investing £6 million in the development of equipment capable of countering attempts to jam satellite systems and strengthening the protection of military personnel. The contract was awarded to the Team Elaris consortium, led by the technology company QinetiQ.

As part of the two-year Urgent Compass project, a new long-range navigation system is being developed. It differs from traditional GPS in that it uses ground-based low-frequency signals that remain operational even during active jamming.

The Kremlin has been repeatedly accused of interfering with global navigation systems. In particular, in 2024, Russia jammed GPS on hundreds of Royal Air Force flights over Eastern Europe, with one in four transport aircraft targeted over a four-month period.

According to the British Ministry of Defense, nearly 90,000 cyberattacks on military infrastructure have been repelled over the past two years. “We are seeing the Russians quite systematically creating interference with our satellites,” said Major General Paul Tedman, head of the UK Space Command.

Recall that Russia uses GPS spoofing to conceal ships carrying sanctioned oil — Ukrainian Navy.

In Odesa, an FSB agent recruitedat Medvedchuk’s office was preparing an assassination attempt on a Special Operations Forces officer.

Recall that in the Vinnytsia region, an FSB agent who was coordinating Russian attacks on energy facilities was exposed and detained. The woman was gathering information on power generation facilities and transmitting coordinates to the enemy.

Earlier, the SBU and the National Police thwarted another attempt by Russian special services to destabilize the situation in Kyiv. This time, an FSB agent was detained in the center of the capital while preparing to set fire to the building of the Institute of National Memory of Ukraine.

A Russian agent operating in the Kirovohrad region was sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property. Acting on orders from the Russian Federation, the perpetrator attempted to install a GPS tracker on a special vehicle accompanying convoys of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
