216 battles in 24 hours; the General Staff has identified the hottest fronts

Over the past 24 hours, 216 combat engagements took place on the front lines between the Ukrainian Defense Forces and Russian troops, with the heaviest fighting occurring in the Pokrovsk and Huliaipole sectors. The enemy used aircraft, thousands of drones, and massive artillery strikes against Ukrainian military positions and populated areas. The situation on the front line remains extremely tense. This is stated in a Facebook post by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

 

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 216 combat engagements between Ukrainian defenders and Russian occupation forces were recorded on the front lines over the past 24 hours. This is stated in the General Staff’s morning report as of 8:00 a.m. on May 23, published on Facebook.

The fiercest fighting took place in the Pokrovsk and Huliaipole sectors, where the enemy attempted to break through Ukrainian defenses but without significant success. At the same time, Russian troops continued massive strikes from the air and ground. Over the past day, they carried out 83 airstrikes, dropping 264 guided bombs.

In addition, the enemy deployed nearly 9,753 kamikaze drones and carried out 3,195 attacks on Ukrainian military positions and populated areas, including 34 using multiple launch rocket systems. Separately, it is reported that airstrikes were carried out, in particular, on the areas of Tovstodubove and Pustogorod in the Sumy region.

In the Northern Slobozhansky and Kursk directions, six combat engagements took place; Russian forces carried out 81 attacks on Ukrainian military positions and populated areas, including one using multiple launch rocket systems, conducted five airstrikes, and deployed 10 guided bombs.

 

In the Southern Slobozhansky direction, Russian forces stormed Ukrainian positions seven times in the areas around the settlements of Ternove, Hraniv, and Novovasylivka.

 

In the Kupiansk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled five Russian attacks near Hlushevka and Novoplatonivka.

 

In the Lyman direction, Ukrainian soldiers repelled 12 attempts by the invaders to advance in the areas of Torske, Ozerny, Drobysheve, Dibrova, Yampol, and Lyman.

 

In the Sloviansk direction, Ukrainian defenders stopped three Russian attempts to advance in the areas of Zakitne and Rai-Oleksandrivka.

 

In the Kramatorsk sector, Ukrainian defenders repelled two Russian attacks in the areas of Nykyforivka and Tykhonivka.

 

In the Kostiantynivka sector, Russian forces carried out 16 attacks near Kostiantynivka, Pleshchiivka, Illinivka, Ivanopil, Novodmytrivka, and Stepanivka.

 

In the Pokrovsk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 42 assaults by Russian forces in the areas of the settlements of Vilne, Bilytske, Rodynske, Oleksandrivka, Shevchenko, Pokrovsk, Hryshyne, Toretske, Dorozhne, Novooleksandrivka, Udachne, Kucheryv Yar, Novopavlivka, and Novopidhorodne.

 

In the Oleksandrivka sector, the enemy launched two attacks in the areas of Verbove and Zaporizhzhia.

 

In the Huliaipole sector, there were 32 Russian attacks in the areas of Novozaporizhzhia, Zlagoda, Solodke, Staroukrainka, Dobropillia, Hirke, Zaliznychne, Vozdvyzhivka, Olenokostyantynivka, and Charivne.

 

In the Orikhiv sector, the enemy did not carry out any active operations.

 

In the Dnipro direction, Ukrainian units repelled two Russian attacks in the areas of Hola Prystan and Zaplava.

 

In the Volyn and Polissya sectors, no signs of Russian offensive troop formations were detected.

Russian troops continue to launch massive strikes on the Kherson region. Over the past day, one person was killed in the region, and another 20 were wounded. Kherson and more than three dozen other settlements came under fire.

Over the past day, 13 civilians were injured due to Russian attacks in the Sumy region. Dozens of settlements in the region came under fire, and Russian drones attacked civilian vehicles, homes, and farms.

Russian troops continue to shell the Donetsk region. Over the past day, seven civilians were wounded in the region. Authorities emphasize that the number of war casualties in the region continues to rise almost daily. 

Mykolaiv came under attack again from Russian drones, which struck the city and the region. An administrative building was damaged in the shelling, but there were no casualties. The enemy also repeatedly attacked communities in the region with FPV drones and artillery.

The Zaporizhzhia region has endured one of the most intense attacks in recent times, as Russian troops launched hundreds of strikes on dozens of settlements. One man was killed and two others were wounded as a result of the shelling. Both frontline communities and areas further inland came under fire.
