30 companies have been granted permission to establish private air defense units — Ministry of Defense
The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has authorized 30 companies to form private air defense units.
According to the ministry, several such units are already carrying out combat missions and have shot down more than 20 Russian drones. Among the targets destroyed are Zala reconnaissance drones, Shahed strike drones, and one jet-powered drone.
In total, the Ministry of Defense received 43 applications to establish air defense units. About half of the applications were submitted by operators and critical infrastructure enterprises, with the remainder coming from representatives of the private sector.
The ministry noted that the project is designed to strengthen the protection of facilities that are regularly targeted by Russian drones.
Private air defense groups operate as part of the national air defense system and are under the command of the Ukrainian Air Force.
