The 423rd Battalion, known as the Scythian Griffins, was reorganized into a separate regiment
Effective August 1, 2026, the 423rd Separate Unmanned Systems Battalion “Scythian Griffins” was officially upgraded and reorganized into a separate unmanned systems regiment. The unit also issued a statement refuting disinformation spread by Russian propaganda.
Lieutenant Colonel Vitaliy Gersak will continue to command the newly formed regiment and will remain at the helm of the combat unit.
The unit emphasized that the reorganization is part of its development and expansion of capabilities in the field of unmanned systems. It also urged the public not to trust fake news spread by Russian propaganda outlets.
Thanks to the implementation of modern technologies and the continuous improvement of combat effectiveness in the use of UAVs, between 2024 and 2026, the “Scythian Griffins” evolved from a separate UAV detachment into a separate regiment of the 20th Army Corps of the “South” Operational Command.
It is one of the most effective units in the “South” Operational Command’s area of responsibility and among the UAV units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Land Forces Command. Since the beginning of 2025, the battalion has remained in the top 20 of the “Delta” ranking and ranks first in effectiveness among separate battalion-level units. In less than two years of its existence, the “Scythian Griffins” have eliminated over 5,750 enemy personnel, 533 enemy vehicles, 222 artillery systems, 29 supply depots, 21 tanks, 320 enemy UAVs of various types, as well as nearly 13,000 enemy observation posts and deployment sites.
The unit has its own engineering and design facilities, experimental production of ammunition and unmanned aerial vehicles, workshops and training grounds, as well as experienced crews who operate all types of modern UAVs and employ all available types of weaponry.
“On the occasion of the new separate regiment’s anniversary, I want to say ‘hello’ to those Russian military correspondents who have recently been publishing jubilant fake news about the alleged destruction of our combat crews. Relentless attempts to harm the ‘Scythian Griffins’ are constant, but they are all futile. Not only are we alive and well, but we also continue to grow,” states Regiment Commander V. Gersak.
“After our transformation into a regiment, our unit’s combat capabilities will increase significantly, so we’ll send even more occupiers to ‘Kobzon’s concert,’” notes the 423rd Special Forces Battalion.

As a reminder, the 225th Regiment responded to allegations of mistreatment of military personnel.
Earlier, officials from the State Bureau of Investigations announced that two servicemen from the medical company of the “Skelya” regiment were under suspicion of beating and unlawfully detaining two fellow soldiers in the Kirovohrad region. This was reported on July 28 by the SBI’s press service.
The command of the 425th Separate Assault Regiment “Skelya” stated that it is cooperating with the State Bureau of Investigations and supports the investigation into possible violations. The unit noted that it does not deny the existence of certain problems and is committed to addressing these issues.
