Aeroflot's stock plummeted following Zelenskyy's statement
Shares of the Russian airline Aeroflot fell by more than 5% following a warning from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The head of state warned of the dangers of flying in Russian airspace, which affected the value of the company’s securities.
At around 8:40 p.m. Moscow time, Aeroflot’s share price fell 5.11% to a low of 30.36 rubles per share. The company’s shares are traded on the Moscow Exchange under the ticker symbol AFLT.
The drop occurred shortly after Zelenskyy’s evening address. The president warned international airlines, insurers, and other aviation industry participants about the increasing danger of flying over Russia.
“Russian airspace is becoming completely dangerous,” Zelenskyy said. He emphasized that Ukraine poses no threat to civilian aircraft, but Ukrainian drones will appear in Russian airspace so regularly that airlines will have to take this into account.
Earlier, Budanov confirmed Zelenskyy’s plans to close Russian airspace.
Prior to this, Zelenskyy had warned airlines about the dangers in Russian airspace.
