The Moscow Arbitration Court has declared Microsoft's Russian subsidiary bankrupt

On April 14, 2026, the Moscow Arbitration Court officially declared Microsoft Rus LLC bankrupt and initiated bankruptcy proceedings against the company. The monitoring procedure had been initiated back in September of last year at the company’s own request, as its debt to creditors exceeded 1.5 billion rubles.

This was reported by Meduza.

Microsoft’s parent company ceased sales of products and services in Russia back in 2022, but the Russian office continued to provide technical support under existing contracts. By 2024, Microsoft Rus had only one active client left, which finally terminated its cooperation in 2025. This led to a complete halt in operations and the inability to meet financial obligations.

After exiting the market, the company faced dozens of lawsuits from major Russian enterprises, including Aeroflot, VTB, Megafon, Lenta, Surgutneftegaz, and Gazprombank. The plaintiffs demanded a refund for prepaid licenses for Windows and Office, which had ceased to function properly. The bankruptcy of the Microsoft division became yet another symbol of Russia’s economic isolation amid the systemic recession that engulfed the country in April 2026.

Earlier reports indicated that Microsoft Corporation is finally exiting the Russian market. Its subsidiary, Microsoft Rus LLC, is preparing to file for bankruptcy with the Moscow Arbitration Court.

As a reminder, Microsoft announced a large-scale workforce reduction—approximately 7,000 employees worldwide will be laid off.
