Drone attack in Ufa: an oil refinery and an aircraft parts manufacturer may have been targeted

On the morning of April 2, a drone attack was reported in the Russian city of Ufa—one of the likely targets may have been not only an oil refinery but also a facility involved in the production of components for military aircraft.

This was reported by the Telegram channel Astra.

One of the facilities is located approximately 550 meters from a residential building at 54 Gafuri Street, which was struck by a drone that morning.

“Judging by the nature of the damage to the building, the drone came from the southwest. The facility is located northeast of the building. The drones were likely flying in its direction,” the report specified.

It is noted that this facility is subject to sanctions by the United States, the European Union, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, Canada, Switzerland, and Japan.

Earlier reports indicated that during the attack, drones struck the AVT-5 primary oil refining unit at the Bashneft-Novoyl oil refinery. This refinery has a capacity of approximately 7–7.4 million tons of oil per year. The facility produces automotive gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, lubricants, and other petroleum products.

The attacked plant is located approximately 1,400 km from Ukrainian territory.

At the same time, according to Astra’s estimates, another likely target could have been JSC “Ufa Aggregate Production Association” (UAPA), which is part of the “Technodinamika” holding company of the state corporation “Rostec.”

The company specializes in the production of complex electrical systems for aviation—specifically ignition systems, electric motors, generators, and power converters that power aircraft onboard systems.

Components manufactured at UAPO are used, in particular, on Russian Su-34 fighter-bombers and Su-35 fighters.

Additionally, according to the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the company manufactures components for the Kh-101 and Kh-59M2 missiles, which Russian forces use to strike targets in Ukraine.

On the night of April 2, a massive fire broke out at an oil refinery in the Russian city of Ufa following a drone attack.

Based on analysis of photos and videos from local residents, the Bashneft-Novoyl plant, which is part of Rosneft, was hit. The facility specializes in the production of high-octane gasoline, motor and industrial lubricants, aviation and jet fuel, diesel, bitumen, and other petroleum products.
