Part of Moscow was plunged into darkness: a blackout occurred

Following a massive drone attack on Moscow on August 18, a large-scale power outage occurred in several districts of the Russian capital. Due to the outages, residential neighborhoods were left without power, the subway came to a halt, and elevators got stuck in buildings.

Russian Telegram channels report that power went out simultaneously in several districts of the Russian capital—specifically, in the Zamoskvorechye, Danilovsky, and Gagarinsky districts.

The incident caused a major disruption on the Kaluga-Riga metro line. On the “orange” line, trains were running at significantly longer intervals. A stampede and a large crowd formed at the exit of the “Rizhskaya” station; the escalators are not working, and there is no power in nearby stores either.

As of 8:34 p.m., subway service was reported to have resumed.

In addition, several people were stranded in elevators due to a sudden power outage.

As a reminder, on the night of August 18, Moscow and the Moscow Region came under a massive drone attack. Russian authorities reported hundreds of drones, some of which were allegedly shot down by air defense systems, and operations at the capital’s airports were restricted due to the threat of attack.

In the Black Sea, the Greek bulk carrier Anna S, sailing under the Liberian flag, caught fire following the attack. The vessel was struck by five drones approximately 40 km from Novorossiysk.

Yuri Ushakov, an aide to the Russian dictator, stated that Moscow is not considering the possibility of freezing the war against Ukraine along the current line of combat.
