Ukrainian strikes on oil refineries have caused a new shortage of motor oil in Russia

Ukrainian strikes on oil refineries have caused a new shortage of motor oil in Russia

In Russia, attacks by Ukrainian drones on oil refineries have led to a shortage of motor oils. According to a source, the strikes on refineries are exacerbating the shortage of petroleum products, which has already affected fuel supplies.

Industry participants report that the Russian automotive lubricants market is experiencing supply disruptions and shortages across a range of products, particularly motor oils.

According to Vladimir Andreyev, head of the service division at the automotive marketplace Fresh, prices have risen 1.5 to 2 times over the past two months, while delivery times have increased from two days to two weeks.

“Some popular motor oils are completely out of stock—we’re buying from intermediaries whatever manufacturers managed to ship earlier,” he said.

Some market participants attribute the supply disruptions to unscheduled repairs at oil refineries and restrictions on certain types of raw materials, such as those used in coolants.

In particular, Russian manufacturers are facing a shortage of necessary imported additives.

Since the beginning of the year, automotive oils have risen in price by 15–20%, depending on the brand and specific product line, according to Tatyana Ovchinnikova, director of the Fit Service auto repair chain. According to her, price increases for certain products may continue, reaching 40%.

At the same time, demand may drive the use of lower-grade gasoline, which requires more frequent oil changes.

Earlier, drones attacked Ufa and set fire to an oil refinery unit that was undergoing repairs.

As a reminder, the “ATESH” partisan movement claimed to have destroyed three Russian communications towers in the border areas of the Kursk region. According to the movement, the facilities in the areas of the settlements of Darino, Mala Loknya, and Sverdlikovo provided communication between the command posts of Russian units.

As a result of the Russian attack on August 18, the premises of the “Kyivguma” factory in Brovary, Kyiv Oblast, sustained damage. No employees were injured, and preliminary assessments indicate that the damage is not critical.

On the evening of August 18 and overnight on August 19, Russian troops attacked the Nikopol and Kryvyi Rih districts of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast more than 10 times with drones and artillery. As a result of the shelling, an administrative building, a private home, and other civilian structures were damaged, and a fire broke out. According to preliminary data, there were no fatalities or injuries.

Earlier, a Russian drone attacked a car carrying bread near Zaporizhzhia.
