The Red Cross helped those affected by the attack on Sumy

Following yet another Russian attack on Sumy, the Ukrainian Red Cross quickly stepped in to assist local residents. Volunteers are distributing building materials, helping to secure damaged homes, and supporting people who have been left without safe shelter.

Following the Russian attack on Sumy, rapid response teams from the Sumy Regional Organization and volunteers from the Sumy City and District Organization of the Ukrainian Red Cross were dispatched to the sites of the strikes. Their main task was to provide immediate assistance to people whose homes had been damaged by explosions. At three locations, volunteers distributed materials to residents for urgent temporary repairs to their homes. People received OSB panels and special tarps to cover broken windows, doors, and damaged openings in their homes. This helps protect their homes—at least temporarily—from rain, wind, and further damage.

In addition to distributing humanitarian aid, volunteers worked directly on-site. More than 30 households received hands-on assistance. In cases where homeowners were unable to deal with the aftermath of the shelling on their own, and municipal services were overwhelmed by the large number of calls, volunteers carried out the most essential repairs themselves.

The Red Cross noted that the aid was organized as quickly as possible, since people need support within the first few hours after such attacks. Volunteers helped make the homes at least partially livable so that residents could stay in their homes more safely. “The rapid response team and volunteers promptly provided assistance to residents of Sumy who were affected by yet another Russian shelling,” the Ukrainian Red Cross reported.

The organization also thanked its partners, thanks to whom it was able to quickly provide people with necessary supplies. This time, the aid was provided with the support of the Danish Red Cross.

Russian shelling of the Sumy region continues almost daily, so humanitarian organizations are regularly active in the region. After each attack, they help residents deal with the immediate aftermath of the destruction, support those affected, and provide people with the bare necessities until full-scale repairs can be carried out. The Ukrainian Red Cross reported this on Facebook.

Fires broke out in Kramatorsk following strikes by FPV drones.

As a result of a massive Russian strike on the capital, a rented humanitarian warehouse belonging to the Ukrainian Red Cross was completely destroyed; it had stored over 320,000 items of cargo and equipment with a total value of more than 79 million hryvnias

As a result of Russian shelling and a fire at one of the capital’s enterprises, fuel and lubricants flowed into Lake Kyrylivske in Kyiv through the storm sewer system.
