More than 430,000 pieces of adaptive clothing were purchased for wounded soldiers
Since the beginning of 2026, more than 430,000 pieces of adaptive clothing have been purchased for wounded Ukrainian soldiers. This already accounts for more than 70% of the annual requirement. This specialized clothing is designed to make it easier for soldiers to change after being wounded and to help medical personnel gain faster access to injured areas of the body.
Since the beginning of the year, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has purchased more than 430,000 pieces of adaptive clothing for wounded soldiers. These are special garments that are much easier to put on and take off when a person has limited mobility or when regular clothing causes pain and discomfort. As of September, the following have already been purchased:
- 100,000 pairs of summer socks;
- 73,650 adaptive T-shirts;
- 135,000 short- and long-sleeved T-shirts;
- 80,000 pairs of shorts;
- 41,650 pairs of pants.
In total, this amounts to more than 430,000 pieces of clothing. According to the Ministry of Defense, the quantity purchased already exceeds 70% of the annual requirement.
How adaptive clothing differs from regular clothing
The main feature of this clothing is special fasteners, particularly “Velcro.” They allow the wearer to quickly open the desired part of the garment without having to make unnecessary movements. This is especially important for a soldier after being wounded. It can be difficult to take off or put on a regular T-shirt, tank top, or pants on one’s own if the arms, legs, or other parts of the body are injured.
Adaptive clothing also makes the medical staff’s job easier. Thanks to the fasteners, they can quickly gain access to the injured area of the body to perform an examination, procedure, or dressing change. This eliminates the need to fully undress the patient or move the injured body part unnecessarily. In other words, these items are not just for comfort. They help make daily care for wounded soldiers simpler and less painful.
Where the clothing is sent
The Defense Procurement Agency (DOTA) organized the procurement and delivery of adaptive clothing. First and foremost, the items are sent to military hospitals and civilian hospitals in frontline and border regions. It is there that many Ukrainian soldiers receive treatment and undergo rehabilitation after being wounded.
Adaptive clothing is part of the “Wounded Soldier’s Care Package” project. As part of this project, soldiers receive more than just specialized clothing after being wounded. The package also includes personal hygiene items needed during treatment and recovery.
The Ministry of Defense emphasized that adaptive clothing is provided to wounded service members from all branches of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Thus, the purchased items are to be distributed to service members regardless of which branch or unit of the Ukrainian Defense Forces they belong to, according to the Ministry of Defense.
