A debate has erupted within the Russian government over whether to feed Russians with potatoes
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev stated that the use of insect protein and other innovations in the field of “food of the future” deserve attention, but the agro-industrial complex will continue to increase the production of traditional food products. Earlier, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov expressed support for the use of protein from black soldier fly larvae, calling for an open-minded approach to such products.
Patrushev noted that “insect-based products are a good thing,” but emphasized the need to preserve the traditional diet for citizens.
In October 2023, the Russian government officially included the black soldier fly and its larvae in the list of agricultural products. This created a legal framework for their industrial breeding and the production of insect-infused products, including noodles, snacks, chocolate, and cookies.

The fuel crisis in Russia has added 0.7–0.8 percentage points to the overall inflation rate. This was stated by Andrei Gangan, director of the Bank of Russia’s Monetary Policy Department.
As a reminder, on the morning of August 13, drones attacked the “Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat” oil refining and petrochemical complex in Bashkortostan. Smoke rose above the plant’s territory following the attack.
