Another country may join the Special Tribunal against Russia, says Sibiga

During the G7 summit in France, Ukraine received an indication that another country is prepared to join the agreement to establish a Special Tribunal on Russia’s crime of aggression.

This was announced by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga in an interview with Ukrinform.

“We have received another confirmation from a country that I cannot name yet. This is yet another state that will join the Agreement on the establishment of a Special Tribunal for the crime of aggression,” he stated.

The minister also noted that on March 31, foreign ministers from European Union countries will arrive in Ukraine.

“This will be the Bucha Summit. And we are working to ensure that as many countries as possible confirm their participation. But not just participation, but ratification of the implementation agreement,” Sibiga emphasized.

Among the outcomes of the G7 summit, he also noted the support of international partners in restoring the shelter over the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, which was damaged by a Russian drone.

“As is known, the shelter was damaged by a Russian drone, and the cost of the repairs currently stands at around 500 million euros. During this meeting, specific commitments were already made by a number of countries regarding funding for the future fund. This will be a joint project with the EBRD. I won’t give any figures right now, but there is already confirmation of several tens of millions of euros. Therefore, the process of attracting donor funds has begun,” the minister noted.

It should be noted that a meeting of foreign ministers from the “Group of Seven” countries took place in France on March 26–27.

Recall that on March 25, 2026, Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmér Stenergård announced the official confirmation of her country’s participation in the Agreement on the Establishment of a Special Tribunal on the Crime of Aggression.

On March 25, the European Commission adopted a proposal to initiate the process of the EU joining the ranks of the founding members of the Special Tribunal on the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine. Once the member states approve this proposal, the European Commission will be able to announce the EU’s intention to join the Tribunal as a founding member. Thereafter, the EU will play a central role in the tribunal’s activities, including as a member of the Steering Committee that will oversee the Special Tribunal.

Earlier, Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten stated the need to accelerate the process of establishing a special tribunal on Russia’s crime of aggression against Ukraine.

Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna called on the international community to urgently establish a special tribunal to hold the direct organizers and instigators of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine accountable.
