After being appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Drapaty promised to work with respect for Ukraine’s defenders
Mykhailo Drapatiy, whom President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appointed as the new Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on July 21, stated that he will serve responsibly and with respect for those who defend the country. He wrote about this on Facebook, according to “Ukrainska Pravda.”
Drapatiy thanked the president for his trust, the defense minister for his support, and the Armed Forces for this new phase of service. He emphasized that serving Ukraine during the war for independence means “absolute responsibility” to him.
The new Commander-in-Chief also expressed gratitude to Oleksandr Syrskyi for his consistent efforts to strengthen the Ukrainian military. “I will work responsibly, with focus, and with respect for the people who are defending our country today,” Drapatiy wrote.
Mykhailo Drapatiy participated in the liberation of Mariupol in 2014, and in March 2022, he led the defense of Kryvyi Rih. He later led the “Kherson” operational group and was among the commanders who oversaw the liberation of the right bank of the Kherson region. In June 2025, Zelenskyy appointed him commander of the Joint Forces.
