Drones attacked a Lukoil oil refinery and a thermal power plant in the Nizhny Novgorod region of Russia
On the night of April 5, 2026, a large-scale drone attack paralyzed operations at key energy facilities in the Kstovo District of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Russia.
The Lukoil-Nizhny Novgorodnefteorgsintez oil refinery and the Novogorkovskaya Thermal Power Plant were targeted, resulting in significant damage and fires.
The region’s governor, Gleb Nikitin, officially confirmed the attack, stating that 30 drones had struck. According to him, although air defense forces attempted to repel the attack, falling debris caused fires in the industrial zone.
Local residents posted numerous videos on social media showing a massive fireball over the oil refinery and the sounds of repeated explosions.
The publication "Astra" verified these recordings, confirming the exact location of the strikes at the oil giant’s strategic facility.
Damage to the Novogorkovskaya Thermal Power Plant has caused power supply issues in the area.
Russian authorities claim that power is currently being restored to consumers, but the extent of the technical damage at the plant itself has not yet been disclosed.
The regional administration claims that there were no casualties as a result of the incident.
At the same time, damage to residential buildings and private plots indicates that hostilities are increasingly affecting civilian infrastructure deep within Russian territory.
As a reminder, drones attacked oil infrastructure in the Leningrad region.
