A former Rosnano executive from Chubais's team was sentenced to nine years in prison
The Gagarin District Court of Moscow sentenced Andrei Kushnarev, the former managing director for investment activities at “Rosnano,” to nine years in a general-regime penal colony in a case involving the embezzlement of more than 7.5 billion rubles (approximately $90 million).
In addition to the prison sentence, the former executive was fined 76 million rubles, barred from holding executive positions for two and a half years, and the state corporation’s civil claim was upheld.
According to the investigation, from April 2013 to March 2021, the defendants embezzled funds allocated for the development of Russian-made MRAM energy-independent memory, with no intention of implementing the project. Kushnarev became the second former executive from Anatoly Chubais’s team to receive a prison sentence for embezzling billions. His alleged accomplice, former Rosnano board deputy chairman Yuri Udaltsov, has been placed on an international wanted list.

In Russia, a court sentenced Lieutenant General Yuri Kuznetsov, the former head of the Defense Ministry’s personnel department, to 12 years in a strict-regime penal colony in a bribery case. He was also fined 125.35 million rubles, stripped of his military rank and state awards, and barred from holding leadership positions for six years after his release.
In the Moscow Region of Russia, Major General of Internal Service Sergei Malkov, deputy head of the regional Interior Ministry department and head of logistics, was detained. He is suspected of embezzling fuel belonging to the ministry.
