ISW has revealed the real reason why Putin ordered an attack on Kyiv

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin’s order to launch a massive strike on Kyiv is directly linked to the recent May 9 parade

This is according to a report by analysts at the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

The Kremlin sought to demonstrate its strength following the event, which drew widespread criticism both within Russia and internationally.

According to military analysts, Russian leadership had previously actively threatened strikes against “decision-making centers” in the Ukrainian capital, specifically using the “Oreshnik” missile system.

Moscow had promised to take such a step if attacks were carried out on Russian targets during Victory Day celebrations. Although Ukraine did not carry out such strikes, a large-scale shelling of Kyiv took place nonetheless.

Experts note that such intimidation tactics ahead of May 9 were used by the Kremlin to mask serious problems with defending its own airspace.

“The Russian strike on Kyiv is part of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s ongoing efforts to erase the humiliation associated with the Victory Day parade. Putin is trying to demonstrate strength following a parade that drew widespread criticism,” the report states.

The attack also completely violated the declared “spirit” of the three-day ceasefire, proving once again Moscow’s inability to abide by any agreements.

The latest missile attack sparked a wave of serious discontent within the Russian Federation itself.

So-called Russian “military correspondents” and military bloggers called this strike purely symbolic, a media stunt, and completely ineffective from an operational standpoint.

They openly noted that such shelling is too expensive, yet has no military value in changing the situation on the front lines.

Russia struck the historic center of Kyiv and nearly destroyed the National Museum “Chernobyl”

In Kyiv’s Shevchenkivskyi district, a hit on a business center was recorded following a massive nighttime attack by Russia. It is preliminarily known that people may be trapped inside the shelter.

As a result of Russia’s massive missile and drone attack on Kyiv, a shock wave damaged the ground-level lobby of the Lukyanivska metro station.

On the night of May 24, Russian forces carried out a massive combined attack on Kyiv, using ballistic missiles and strike drones. All districts of the capital came under fire.
