Number of casualties from Russian attack in Kyiv rises to six

Following a combined overnight Russian attack on Kyiv, the number of injured residents has increased to six, according to Kyiv City Military Administration Head Tymur Tkachenko.

He stated that some of the injured remain in moderate condition, and medical personnel are providing all necessary care.

Tkachenko noted that explosions were heard across different districts of the capital, while air defence forces worked to intercept enemy missiles and drones. Some targets were successfully destroyed, but debris damaged residential buildings, vehicles, and infrastructure. Several fires broke out but were promptly extinguished by emergency services.

“After the enemy’s overnight attack, the number of casualties has risen to six people,” Tkachenko wrote on his Telegram channel. Previously, only three injured were reported. Local authorities urged residents not to ignore air raid signals and to take shelter whenever there is danger.

The overnight Russian strike was the most severe attack on Ukraine’s energy system since the start of the year. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal also reported on additional energy aid Ukraine will receive from international partners.

Kyiv Oblast received its first shipment of aid from Poland — 35 generators of various capacities and 18 oil-filled heaters. This marks the first stage of a large support programme aimed at ensuring the stable operation of critical infrastructure in the region.

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved funding for the first stage of a new state programme, “SvitloDim” (LightHome), designed to provide apartment buildings with autonomous energy sources.

On 3 February, Ukraine implemented scheduled hourly power outages.
