The border with Belarus has been turned into a line of defense — Ukrainian Armed Forces
The Ukrainian border with Belarus has been reinforced with a large-scale system of defensive structures to repel potential threats from the north.
This was reported by the "West" Operational Command.
The military noted that despite the relative calm in this area, Belarus remains an ally of Russia and a potential springboard for new provocations or offensive actions.
According to the military, kilometers of fortifications, hundreds of caponiers for equipment, and long-term firing positions have been set up along the northern border.
Defenses are also reinforced by minefields, trenches, engineering barriers, and the natural features of Polissya—forests, swamps, and rivers—which hinder the enemy’s advance.
The operational command emphasized that Ukrainian units in this sector are in constant combat readiness to respond immediately to any enemy actions.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russia is attempting to draw Belarus deeper into the war against Ukraine and is considering new scenarios for aggression from its territory.
Belarus’s self-proclaimed president, Alexander Lukashenko, held a meeting on military equipment and announced the preparation of a new state armament program for 2026–2030.
Belarus continues to build infrastructure facilities deep within its territory and is not moving them closer to the Ukrainian border. At the same time, it cannot be ruled out that Russia may use these facilities in the future to deploy additional forces and equipment.
